I am impressed. I was not sure what to expect with this amp when I ordered one without listening to it beforehand… especially with it being Class D. I knew it was based on the Hypex Ucd400 module that measures better than most or all Class AB amps in this price range and higher..but how was the Elac going to sound? Was it going to be the very transparent but slightly dry and 2 dimensional sound I had come across with other Class D? This definitely was not the case with the Elac. Right away I knew the DPA-2 was something totally different. Forget about what Class amp this is, it just sounds great. It is lively, dynamic, crystal clear and transparent. No background noise, hiss or hum. The music projects itself from a black background..if that makes sense? Has a very refined sound while completely controlling the speakers, never loose or shouty at loud volumes. Voices sound natural like they should. Perfect match for my slightly neutral speakers. I can hear every detail but it’s not overly analytical..very engaging and full of emotion. Every home and stereo set up is different, and I’m just a stranger sharing my thoughts on a piece of gear..but I think this amp is worth a listen if you are in the market for one. So good when playing well recorded material. The amps slim stature, weight, and low heat are also pretty convenient.

This amp exceeded my expectations. It is very dynamic with complete control of the speakers. Has enough power to run even the hardest to drive speakers. No distortion or hum or hiss..totally black background. It may be slim in size but this amp is solidly built..with very nice binding posts. I think anyone who tries this amp will be surprised by how good it sounds compared to any in or near it’s price range, and when you consider the price I don’t know how they did it. It is really good, nothing else to say about it. I ended up buying a second one about 2 months after the first one…neutral, transparent, dynamic and engaging.

I have 3 of these amps and I use them as monoblocks for my R,L&C channel speakers in a 11.1 home theater configuration. I also use the 2 of the Alchemy monoblocks as R&L only amps for stereo listening. I am truly blown away by their performance, size and minimal heat output. Peter Madnick really came up with a truly great monoblock solution for adding to an 11.1 home theater set up and a fantastic 2 channel stereo configuration. Their sound is very analog and acoustic in nature. Thanks Elac for recommending this solution to me.
