  1. J.

I know it’s old hat by now to say that these Andrew Jones-designed speakers from ELAC are great affordable speakers, but it is truly remarkable the level of sound you get for the price of these ELAC UB5.2 bookshelf speakers. I have a pair of ProAc Response D2 monitor speakers, and no, the ELACs don’t quite match their level of high-end output, but they still make me wonder if I need the ProAcs anymore (which are about six times the cost of the ELACs). I’m particularly enjoying the concentric driver—the midrange and treble combine to make voices and brass instruments sound incredibly present. Overall, the speakers have a nicely balanced sound, with just the right amount of base to complement the rest of the spectrum. I say all this without having properly broken them in yet, so I’m guessing they’ll open up even more after a little bit more time. Very happy so far…

These speakers are awesome and I love them. I have them hooked up in my office and power them with an SMSL DA-9 amp and SU-9 dac. Hi res audio never sounded so good. Sometimes I’m inclined to stop everything I’m doing and just sit and listen. Well done ELAC!!

  3. James

Very nice so far. Still in the break-in process, but I like what I’m hearing!

  4. Jon

These speakers have met my high expectations based on all the hype. In my mixed use home theater/music set up, I am really enjoying the transparency, depth and resolution these speakers bring to the table.

Bought these strictly off of reviews and YouTube reviews I had seen online. Never heard them before in person. Very satisfied even using an older Yamaha amp to drive them. I would definitely recommend them.

My #1 speaker requirement is imaging. I purchased the 52’s based on YouTube recommendations for imaging and I’ve never regretted it. Now I’ve upgraded every element of my system, amp, pre-amp, dac to a level 3 and 4 times the cost of the 52’s. In the process I’ve been searching for an upgrade for the speakers to match the balance of my upgraded system. I’m still searching. The performance I get from the 52’s is so strong I just can’t justify the jump to a speaker that is 2 to 3 times more expensive for less, or even similar imaging performance. It’s going to take quite a speaker to knock the 52’s off the top of the imaging mountain.

For me very good speakers. After a period of more or less 50 hours the speckers sound became perfect for my home studio hi-fi.
The best thing of these speaker is for me the soundstage ad details: absolute great. The sound is spacious and open. For example with jazz brass music the performance is excellent.
Bass are very good and midrange (like voices) at high level. For that price and class/type of speakers for one of the best.
I use UNI FI 2.0 UB52 bookshelf in a room of 10 m2 square and are perfect. Are positioned on a dedicated size stand.

Great job by Elac and Andrew Jones

Yes, if you’re wondering, they ARE that good. Once in a while you find something that lives up to the hype in this stupid world. This is one of those things.

  9. ComputerAudiophile

These ELAC UB52s are my “retirement” speakers. After owning a quite amount of “boxes”, no one can match the UB52s (Dali, Jamo, Monitor Audio, even PMC). The 85db sensitivity is actually not difficult to drive, if you partner them right. First: Cables! Had best results with Wireworld Equinox series. Second: High current amp! A pre/power combo to be exact. Best results. Running my ELACs with ARCAM ALFA 9 (as a pre), and ARCAM DELTA 290p (power). Yes, amps are from mid 90s, but synergy is insane. Big soundstage, instrument separation is excellent, full-bodied sound, gorgeous voices. What can you ask more. They also go well with amps like YAMAHA, EXPOSURE…even was driving them with 2 x 25 watts NAD, so go figure. Do your research about high current amps, build the system around ELACs, and once you complete it, its a blast for listening them.

I am going to order again. I use a Dynaco stereo 400 with a Hafler pre amp. 350 watts per channel. I run the wires from the Dynaco to my subwoofer. Then out of the sub to the Elacs. The subwoofer takes the power of the bass and the speakers sound very crisp and clear.

Beyond the Bookshelf

Space constraints should never compromise great sound. The Uni-Fi 2.0 UB52 is the perfect solution when space is at a premium yet demand for audiophile sound is not negotiable. Using the same outstanding drivers and technology as the other models in the series ensures this compact, 3-way, bass-reflex monitor delivers a matched sonic signature.

3-Way Speaker Design

With separate tweeter, mid-range and bass drivers the Uni-Fi UB52 delivers clean bass without distorting vocals.

Newly Developed Concentric Driver

A new wide-surround tweeter enhances it’s low and high frequency extension allowing for improved blending with the midrange driver. An entirely new mid-range design features a larger diameter voice coil, new aluminum cone profile, new low-profile surround, and an all-new neodymium magnet assembly.

New Single Piece Woofer

A newly developed single piece aluminum dished cone results in improved stiffness. Combined with an oversized magnet, large diameter voice coil, and extended pole piece, these changes result in improved accuracy and bass dynamics.

Sophisticated 3-Way Crossover

An enhanced design improves response linearity, improves driver integration and delivers a true 6-ohm nominal impedance for compatibility with virtually all AV receivers.

Enhanced Bracing

Every Uni-Fi 2.0 enclosure is engineered with thick MDF outer walls and a luxurious black ash vinyl finish. Specially located internal bracing adds stiffness and strength to the cabinet’s outer walls, reducing the cabinet vibration that causes unwanted coloration.
